  ● Walking the Line - Travel adventures in void

Welcome to my scrapbook! I am an artist, freelance photographer, a former naval engineer, and this is my travel scrapbook for me to remember the order of places I have been to. Nothing of professional nature here to find. I love diving and I love nature. I am a Sagittarius and an INFJ. But most of all, I am a world traveler and a perpetual nomad, always dreaming and thinking of my next adventure.

I have been living in diverse cultures and changed countries a few times. Leaving everything behind, I would start over again from scratch in another reality, in the unknown. I know this might sound scary to some, but to me the open road has always been like a breath of fresh air. You can plan all the details in your life, and none of them happen. Let it go, let it be, and magically the dot you have been chasing all along comes into focus. All we can do is to practice having pure hearts and be aware. All the rest is beyond our control. As comfortable and convenient lives we seek, all the castles we buid are just temporary. The only real thing we will ever have, is ourselves.

In 2007 I packed my bag and went on the road. When people ask me 'why', the best answer would be - curiosity, dreams, and freedom. I have crossed borders more times than I can remember in the past seven years. Maybe not as many countries as some record seekers, but I am not after setting records. I am not after impresssing people nor writing some wise travel advise blogs which people admire and give thumbs up to on social networks. I have been to the same of the countries again and agan, and stayed in some for months. It's not always been smooth. At times I got burnt out along the way. I've been missing home at times. I will never boast about how I want to visit all the countries in the world. It's childish. Yet as long as the winds blow, and I have the health and the spirit to put up the sail - I will continue. I am still curious, I still dream, and I still have the energy to do it. The rewards are simply too great. There is so much to see and experience in this world, and our time here is limited. When you think of doing something, this might just be your last chance to do it. Why wait? And that includes having home or love in your life as well. To see is to welcome and be able to take in whatever comes your way. Be it what you love, be it what you hate. The fine line lies somewhere in between. I guess I am proned to many distractions along the way, thanks to my character, but I am always willing to learn how to draw it.

I am sure there are people out there who can relate to this, and I wish them all safe travels. Drop me a line, stay in touch, and exchange experiences and ideas about making our adventures last a lifetime. I mean seeing the countries and places, because the rest will stay with us no matter what we think or do, in the moment. See you on the road and in the cyber-space. Safe travels! ... Stan

Ending up with less than half the money I expected to have after the Olympics, and no jobs to find after (all the minimum wage jobs are already being done by other engineers, university grads, computer geeks, artists), I packed my stuff and decided to pay instead of 20 dollars for a bunk bed in Vancouver, a modest 6 for my own room - in Asia. I might also do some English teaching there, do more traveling of course and photography. This is what I am supposed to do, not watch my skills, talents and money being wasted in British Columbia, no matter how beautiful the locals think it is.

 ● Itenerary:

 » flag Canada » Vancouver

January 2010 - back from Mexico. A new type of experiment - house-sitting. Then a job for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. A blessing and a disappointment at the same time. We were promised a full time job from mid January till end of March, with lots of overtime, but it turned out that I was actually one of the lucky ones who ended up with three weeks of work. Many people got in trouble because of this deception. But what else can you expect from Vancouver, other than money grabbing and false promises. And my goal has been only one - to organize myself and leave again. I managed to do this, eventually, but unfortunately with half the amount of money which I was counting on.

With limited funds, no place to stay in the expensive and most of all - cold to the bone Vancouver, I decided to have it cheaper and better. I went South, to Mexico. I made it there and back in three weeks on 650 dollars. Vancouver to San Diego, Tijuana, Ensenada, and back to Vancouver. I became a member of the couchsurfing.org, and it worked. I had a place to stay about half of the time.

Back in 2007, I decided that I was sick enough of wasting my life being stuck where I was - Vancouver. I was sick and tired of trying to make it there, and being always pushed back to square one. I had to get out. It's a tough city not just for immigrants, but for people living there. Those who are not rich and well connected. Maybe also for those who immigrated there 40 years ago, when buying a house was still affordable. Now the middle class disappears, rich are getting richer, and the government is basically legally free to waste taxpayers money any way they want and get away with it. Vancouver is not a healthy city. Just go to see the East Side, Main St. and Hastings area, where you will see crowds of zombie like looking people using anf selling drigs openly. It's a place where according to the government, which is so successfull at creating an image of 'the best place in the world to live', almost 19% of children live below the poverty line. The minimum wage, the lowest in Canada at 8 dollars per hour, has been frozen in British Columbia since 2000. The BC Liberals are saying that it's enough to live. Yet the same government talks about inflation and gives themselves wage increase, every year. Plus bonuses and huge retirenment packages at the end, and free dinner and expensive tickets for events like the Olympics. All not accounted for, officially. That's democracy Canadian edition, a country which used immigration as a way to legally bring in 'modern slaves', unaweare people who end up volunteering to gain the 'canadian experience' and run endless paper trail with hopes to get somewhere, following that vanishing point of hope on the horizone, which is skillfully kept not too far but not too close by the new fees, taxes, licenses, invented by the army of fat people on their fat salaries crafting the illusion of the promissed land and creating next fat contracts for themselves and their friends. I have seen such system in Poland, where we had communism.

'We gotta get out of this place', just like The Angelic Upstarts sang, became my motto (I know it is by the Animals but I always listened to punk). I packed my old backpack, put my artwork and the rest of my old existence in a storage and said 'Hello' to my new life. I set my sail on Mexico and Central America. Just like I did in the 90's when I left for Japan.

I was supposed to spend a few months in Latin America. Just to see it, get a bit of an idea what it's like - I had never been there before. A few months became two years. Traveling by bus and boats, I have been to perhaps 200 cities since. I had taken thousands of photos, but I neglected writing and keeping a blog. I will be working on it, and with time upload everything to this web site and my photography portfolio.
