PART 3: Back on the road - South East Asia.
Kuala Besut, Malaysia » August 24, 2010 Just as planned, I arrived in Kuala Besut yesterday. It's a small town, a place with fishing boats. It would be just this if not for the Palau Perhentian. Boats there go from here, and many people here depend on tourism. The islands are closed during the monsoon, so they must make money during the high season. There is a very long beach right next to town, going to the left when you reach the water. That's where I spent the whole afternoon. It's a white sand beach, but it's not the same tourist beach as on the Perhentian. And oh boy, am I feeling energized! The things you can find there, the things you can do. I like walking on a beach with my eyes on the ground. A beach can tell stories, and this one did too. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. The beach. A story of a boat that once crashed and kept waves at bay... Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. ...but now sits on a bay and holds the water. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. An example of symetry and order... Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. ...and a total chaos. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. A story of life's beginnings... Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. ...and ends of the line. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. The played... Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. ...and the players. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. The doom... Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. ...and the hope. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. I also saved a couple lives along the way. I hope this made up for all the seafood I have eaten! haha Forgiven, hopefully the next time I dive will be smooth. There was a net all tangled up and stuck in the sand. I found a few dead crabs in it, and two alive. Ten minutes working on it and I managed to free them from this trap. I got rewarded with a great photo shooting session and a magic show. The crab, so patient, finally said enough and just as it was sitting there on the sand it buried itself in it in less then a second. An amazing disappearing act! Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. This bird came to see me when I was exploring the rusty boat wreck. It announced itself with some noises, let me take a few photos, and left. Then came back again, said something again so I would pay attencion and left again when we both knew that there will be no more picture taking. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. Saying 'thank you' after a meal is polite. This guy figured out - why not do both at the same time! I admire his show of gratefulness, but eating on your knees goes a bit too far in my opinion. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. Some houses along the way. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. A girl and a black cat. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. A beach postcard. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. And the way back to town. Photo: Kuala Besut, Malaysia. My life has always been about freedom and I shall continue to walk this path. Safe travels ! ...........
