PART 3: Back on the road - South East Asia.
Route Map Angkor Wat, Cambodia »
January 6, 2011
So many pages covering the Angkor Wat! And all on the same day. But it's a huge complex, with so many things to see.
This is one of the three most famous temples. This is the temple where they filmed the Tomb Rider movie (based on a video game).
Ta Prohm is famous for the trees which grow from the ruins. You will see for yourself - just scroll down. One of my favorite temples.

We got here after about 20 minutes. It's 13:23.

The structure is not very impressive in the way other temples are, but it looks strong, solid and mysterious to me.

You pass trough the gate, and voila.... this is one of the most famous places of the whole Angkor Wat temples complex.
It's 'the tree of Angkor'.

A vertical shot. Luckily, there are still no people here.

The incredible thing about this form, which is almost like a sculpture made of stone and tree, is when you
throw time into the equation. Things change and get a whole new perspective.
You realize that you see is nothing more than virtual reality. The calmness and stillness is an illusion. What you really are looking at is a process, a movement.
The tree is constantly flowing like a liquid, over the stones, hugging them. A battle, visible only with the eye of your imagination.
Entanglement of human craftsmanship and natures own forces.

Just a few minutes later, the tourists.

As you walk around, you can see more trees trying to conquer the temple.

I am not sure if these carved scenes are from daily life or battles.

But for sure one battle is present - it's between man made structures and nature.

Great for taking pictures!.

Ta Prohm is famous for the growing there trees. So, exploring further, there are more fine examples of this nature vs. man exhibition.

This one is pretty cool, and it looks even better from up close.

Also this one, as if the tree was crawling on the wall from behind.

More crawling trees.

And more people looking at them.

This is the other side of Ta Prohm, after leaving it. It's 14:27, so we have spent here exactly one hour. To see it, take photos, this is a required minimum.
Ta Prohm is one of my favorite places. I could spend more time here, taking photos, or just sitting. If I ever come back here, I will come to Ta Prohm first thing in the morning.
The play of shadows and light here must be mystical at sunrise.
Off to another location.
