PART 3: Back on the road - South East Asia.
![]() ![]() Continuing my boat trip to Siem Reap (the beginning), we are still in the populated area. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → Fisherman emptying the catch from their baot. I'd love to see what actually they caught, but then you can see some of it at the markets. I bet though that not everything gets there. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → Here they are, a little closer. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → More dwellings by the river. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → A woman going through garbage. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → It's been entertaining so far. It's only 7:34 in the morning, and I have already seen a lot! ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → Boats one the shore, colorful against the green palm trees. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → And soon behind. The boat does not move at extreme speeds, but steadily we are further and further. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → There are some rocks or tree branches sticking sometimes out of water. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → More 'parked' boats. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → If there are any children on the river bank they neve fail to wave their hands, smile and sometimes scream 'Hello!. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → Sometimes were passing a small bridge. Since most of the transport in this area seems to be done by boat, I don't think they will build any big ones in the near future, unless there will be need for a major national road. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → Children pulling their fish net out of the water, very happy to see us. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → And having fun after we pass them! This is quite a common sight on the river. These very shallow wooden boats seem miraculously take the waves and never anything bad happens. I have seen many local waiting for the waves and then laugh as their boats rock back and forth. I really like their attitude. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → More rocking on the river. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → Looking forward... ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → And looking back. Still more dwellings to come. I wonder if the river will change in shape and how much further in do the people live. I read that we will be going through narrower areas and some bird sanctuaries. I am looking forward to this. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → More happy kids waving their arms on the shore. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → And even more! ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → A woman doing something on the shore. The deeper we go the more frequently women wear those red scarves the same way as this one. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → The river is getting narrower and the palm trees are getting scarcer. I feel something in the scenery is going to change. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → The are also more boats like this one, carrying people and goods. ![]() Photo: Boat trip: Battambang to Siem Reap, Cambodia → Yes, I think this is it. The river definitely is narrower here, the area is flat, I think there will be lots of meandering on the way. And I will show all about this on the next page |
