Miri, Malaysia, August 2, 2010
From Brunei I went to Miri in Malaysia. It's a three hour bus ride and cost 18 Brunei dollars.
The bus stop is outside the city. The local buses run very seldom and they have no schedule, so instead of waiting an hour or more I opted for a shared taxi with a couple of tourists I met on the way. It cost 5 dollars per person, while the bus is only a dollar, but sometimes you just have to pay for the convenience.
I went to a hostel at the center of the city. There are many restaurants and bars in the area. Actually, the whole Miri does not have much to offer in term of tourist attractions. I don't even know if it does offer anything else except the food and drinks. It's allright to spend there a few days chilling, but I couldn't drink because of my cold, so Miri had not much appeal to me at this time. Besides, the main reason why I went to Miri was to have a base for my trip to the Niah Caves.
I don't have any photos of Miri, but there is not much too see except the normal streets and small shops. The only photo I snapped was this one of the river taken when walking around in the evening, after my arrival. Good enough - makes for a nice postcard :)
