PART 3: Back on the road - South East Asia.
Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia » August 31, 2010 Probably my last day here. I feel like I am growing roots, so it's time to leave. I will decide tomorrow. I'd better get out and do some hiking today - the sun is shining and no time to waste. . . . It's almost night already. It was a great day, and I decided to leave it at this. I will go to Ipoh tomorrow. But what happened today? Well, I went hin king and it was a long and a good one. First breakfast, then went to the Robinson Falls and follow the hike number 9 then 9A. They take you through jungle and it's pretty good. I arrived at a road and then got lucky to hitchhike to the BOH tea plantation. Great views there. Then, walking back, after about 3-4 kilometers, a Chinese couple stopped and asked me to hop in their car if I need a lift. They came from KL for the weekend here. On the way back we stopped at a bee farm, and they took me all the way back to Tanah Rata. Good things happen to good people, ha ha On the way I passed again by the Hindu Temple I visited the other day. I took a few more photos. Then the falls, the jungle trek, the tea farm, and coming back to hotel. I will post a the photos tonight. Photo: Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Another view of the temple. After the temple, I followed a small river and arrived at the Robinson Falls. I have seen Niagara Falls, Iguazu Falls, and many others much bigger than this one. There was even one, in Sumatra, which was pouring and flooding the road so we had to take a detour - a two hour ride turn to a 12 hours journey. Still, big or small, the sound of tumbling water was as soothing as ever. Photo: Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Robinson Falls. Next was the jungle. It took a walk in a jungle to get to the falls, but then the path turned to the hiking trail marked 9A, and that's going through the jungle. Photo: Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. This is not a photo from this trail, but a look at the jungle when walking to the strawberry farm. Jungle in Cameron Highlands is pretty dense and wild. Photo: Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Malaysian jungle. I met some people walking on the trail and was lucky to have someone take a photo of me and a giant millipede! Photo: Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Me and a giant millipede. Oh, and it's time for a haircut Photo: Tanah Rata Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Giant millipede. I used to keep a few as pets. Very easy to maintain them. There is also another millipede in the forest. It's a little different, brownish and the scales are a bit different shape. It's toxic. So, when finding one make sure it looks like this one here before handling, or you will end up in trouble. Finally, I arrived at a road and was lucky to get a ride to the BOH tea plantation and factory. Photo: Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. A view from the trail. That's where I got my ride. Photo: Tanah Rata, Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. On the way to the tea farm. There are tea plantations along the way on both sides of the road. Photo: Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. After arriving at the BOH tea factory, a 174 meter climb to the lookout point. The views from the top are awesome. The tea grows everywhere. Nice green color. The air is very fresh. I wish I had more time, and good company, to hang around there longer. But at this time o the year it rains there every day - mornings are sunny and hot, and there is rain in the afternoon. Very nice, refreshing. The nights are pretty cold though. I really appreciate the hot showers at the hotel. Photo: Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. View from the top - the BOH tea factory greets you with a very pleasant, and strong, smell of tea. It almost feels therapeutical. The tea plans itself don't have any smell. Or perhaps I have a bad nose, ha ha Photo: Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. The tea hills. Photo: Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. The tea hills. Photo: Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. The tea hills. Photo: Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. The tea hills. Photo: Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. Tea plants are actually quite solid little bushes. I wonder how they look when not trimmed. I left after 2 pm. The clouds have already started forming, and I had a very long walk ahead of me. First to get to where I got the lift from about 4 or 5 kilometers, then to the main road another few, and then probably 10 back to Tanah Rata, by bus for which I would have to wait maybe an hour. But the lucky person I am, in moments of desperation, a Chinese couple stopped the car and asked me if I need a lift. They came from kuala Lumpur and were just cruising around checking out the area. They said they will probably stay till the next day, so why not to go to Tanah Rata. Yes!! I got a ride all the way back! Photo: Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. On the way back. My life has always been about freedom and I shall continue to walk this path. Safe travels ! ........... Stan Check out my Photography Portfolio |
