PART 3: Back on the road - South East Asia.
Kuching, Malaysia, August 9, 2010 Now I'm at the airport. Actually already on the plane, waiting for the take off. It's 9 pm. My last day in Borneo... Kuching is a nice city. Overall, maybe the nicest here so far in Borneo. A good place for someone who wants to retire and have it quiet. It's close to the rest of Asia, so the location is right too. Personally, I still need something more exciting. But if you want to take it easy, take strolls on the waterfront, Kuching would be good for you. On my last day I went to see the crocodile farm. It took about an hour to get there because of traffic (bus 3A, 3 Ringgit), and about 30 minutes to get back. Jongs Crocodile Farm - it is what is says, a crocodile farm. Entrance 16 Ringgit. They have corcodiles there, of course, including a few salt water type. Huge. They also have a variety of other animals on display, like a small private ZOO. Some turtles, Malay bears, birds and monkeys. The crocodiles live in a wild like environment (except those sorted by size which live in large concrete pens), while the rest in cages and enclosures. I must say that the place could be better maintained. Some enclosures were way sub-standard and not clean. At 11 am and 3 pm the feed the crocs, and this includes a jumping crocodile show. Below, a few photos from Kuching and the Jong's Crocodile Farm. Photo: Kuching, Malaysia. Along the waterfront. I was going to take lots of photos of the city after returning from the crocodile farm, but it started raining and soon it became dark. So, this one and a few other photos here are all I managed to take. Photo: Kuching, Malaysia. On the way to the bus station. Photo: Kuching, Malaysia. A building close to the place where I stayed. Photo: Kuching, Malaysia. A woman asking for change. Photo: And pretty colors to cheer her up. Photo: Kuching, Malaysia. Around the bus station, taken in full sun around noon - not the best time for photography. Photo: Kuching, Malaysia. One way to go to Chinatown. This is after returning from the crocodile farm. It was raining and now getting dark. Photo: Kuching, Malaysia. A few buildings there. Now a few photos from the crocodile farm. Photo: Kuching, Malaysia. Jong's Crocodile Farm. Most of the crocks are living just like in the wild. Photo: Kuching, Malaysia. Jong's Crocodile Farm. Photo: Kuching, Malaysia. Jong's Crocodile Farm. The feeding. Awesome animals. Jong's Crocodile Farm. This large bird was an awesome camera model. I've taken quite few great portraits photos of him. Photo: Kuching, Malaysia. Jong's Crocodile Farm. They also had an otter family. Very cute animals, and I alos saw them during feeding. Unfortunately, there was a fence made from a really fine mesh around them, so I had problems with focusing the camera. Still, it's a fun photo and shows the spirit of the otter. My life has always been about freedom and I shall continue to walk this path. Safe travels ! ...........
