PART 3: Back on the road - South East Asia.
Route Map Songhkla, Thailand » September 27, 2010 My last day in Songhkla. Tomorrow bus ride to Trang. A bit of walking around, a few photos, and another visit to the beach. There is a famous sculpture of a cat and a rat and another one of a mermaid. A visit to Songhkla wouldn't be complete without documenting them. Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. There are countless temples in Thailand. On the way to the beach I saw this one and this is actually my first photo of a serious temple in Thailand. Nothing in depth, I didn't go inside and I don't even know the name of it. I just enjoyed the view. Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. The entrance. There will be more, and more temples. Skip this one. Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. Another postard worthy sight on the way to the beach. Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. Tropical plants can be really wild. I am not sure if this is the original tree or whatever grew on it. 15:30 and it started getting cloudy and dark. It might rain later. After all this is the monsoon season in Asia. Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. A fresh fruit stand. There are countless street vendors in Thailand - this way the country reminds me of South America. The top sign is in arabic - Songhkla is still not far from the South border with Malaysia, a Muslim country. The further South the more cultural mix of Buddhist and Islamic cultures influenced by religion. Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. A left turn will lead to the beach. Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. Finally there. The sun cam out a bit, but I don't count on any sunshine. Maybe good - the sunset will be nice, dramatic. The perhaps a run for cover from the rain. Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. The beach. Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. The beach to the right. Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. The Sculpture of The Cat and The Mouse, designed and molded in 2000 to commemorate the election of Mr. Uthit Choochuay as the next Mayor of the CIty of Songhkla in 1999. Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. The story of the origins of the sculpture. (to zoom in click Ctrl++) Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. The Mermaid. It's been getting quite dark at this time. Just 16:30, and I know it will rain. The Mermaid was created in 1966 and became the symbol of the Samila Beach. The story says that the mermaid used to sit on the beach and comb here hair. One day a young fisherman saw her and frightened her and she fled into the sea. The fisherman waited but she disappeared forever. It's interesting how the mermaid stories can be found in all cultures around the world. They must have been made by the hopeless romantics, looking for perfect love. To be or not to be... Photo: Songhkla, Thailand. It's getting darker by the minute... Photo: ...then the last person leaves... Photo: ...and the ocean is left alone... My life has always been about freedom and I shall continue to walk this path. Safe travels ! ........... Stan Check out my Photography Portfolio |
