PART 3: Back on the road - South East Asia.
Route Map Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand » October 01, 2010 The main chedi and the upper level. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. After entering the chedi, the first thinbg you see are the msystical createures, warriors on the left, and a big gold standing Buddha on the right. It is pretty dark there. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. The Buddha statue to the right. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. A sitting Buddha at the top of the stairs. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. There is also Buddha's foot print with sacred scriptures written on it. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. There is a lot of glitter in there. Last look from the top of the stairs and I will welcome the white calmness of the chedi. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. Just few steps up and I am at the base of the chedi. There is the usual wrapping in orange cloth of the sacred monuments and statues, as well as any other objects connected to the religion worship, like trees. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. There are bells all around the terrace and people ring them as a prayer. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. The view of the main chedi. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. People also touch the cloth and pray. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. Inside the chedi, at the base and all around it, there are statues of Buddha adn elephants. Also a few small places to pray. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. One of the praying places with Buddha statue in the center. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. As always, the staues have gold leaf on them put by the people. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. A close up of one of the Buddhas. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. One of the many elephants, also covered in gold leaf. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. Another Buddha statue. It's very interesting to see that almost all of them have a different facial features and many times expression. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. Walking around I saw these two young boys. I am sure they live at the temple. They came up to the gong and started playing with it, rubbing their hands on it and making sounds. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. There is also a group of sculptures of meditating monks. As always, they are life like and from a distance it's almost impossible to know if they are alive or man made. I also recognized a few faces from anoter temples, so these must be all the important monks in Thai Buddhism. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. One of them, with Buddha in the background. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. There si also a reclinging Buddha there. All gold. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. An elephant at the end for good luck. Photo: Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand. This is the way out of the chedi, and this is where the elephants are. I spend perhaps 2 hours wandering around. This temple was great and I would really recommend seeing it. I recommend a visit to Nakhon Si Thammarat - definitely. Next a bus to Thun Song and North to Chumphon. It crossed my mind that this might be my last chance to see any islands in the near future, so I might go to Koh Tao for a few days. Chumphon is the place to catch a boat. My life has always been about freedom and I shall continue to walk this path. Safe travels ! ........... Stan Check out my Photography Portfolio |
