PART 3: Back on the road - South East Asia.
Route Map Butterworth & Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia » September 04, 2010 The trip from Ipoh to Georgetown was smooth. A direct bus to Butterworth and then a ferry. About 25 minutes and you arrive in the city. The views from the ferry are great. It reminds me of Vancouver and crossing from to the North Van. It was nice, I always liked it. Georgetown became my favorite place right away. I've read some stories on the internet from people who didn't like it, and just getting there I aksed myself 'why?'. The city has a free WiFi. There is a free bus running all around downtown. There is a mix cultures here, all kinds of food and areas which will make you think you are in India, China or elsewhere. Georgetown has modern and old. Fantastic nature and urban comfort. There is a beach where you can swim, and it is also a duty free zone. Why wouldn't you like it, especially that it is so close to the mainland! I haven't really walked around Butterworth, but it is basically a jumping point off to Penang. In fact, even Butterworth area is called Penang. I found out about it searching for the Canadian Consulate where I was supposed to pick up my new passport. Lots of industrial areas there. Very confusing. I guess picture are worth a thousand words, so I better start with them. The first few are taken through a bus window. Photo: Butterworth, Malaysia. A picture from the bus. It goes through a bunch of toll gates and then a bridge. Photo: Butterworth, Malaysia. There are endless rows of small shops like this along the way. Photo: Butterworth, Malaysia. The bridge and after that the ferry terminal. Photo: Butterworth, Malaysia. Getting to the ferry terminal. Photo: Butterworth, Malaysia. The first glimpse of Palau Penang and a ferry. My life has always been about freedom and I shall continue to walk this path. Safe travels ! ........... Stan Check out my Photography Portfolio |
