PART 3: Back on the road - South East Asia.
Kota Bahru, Malaysia » August 27, 2010 I arrived in Kota Bahru yesterday. It's a short 1.5 hour ride from Kuala Besut by public bus, 6 Ringgit. Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. A woman in front of me sleeping on the bus. Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. A quick first view from my dorm window. Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. A street. Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. A street. Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. Small shoppes left, small shops right - quite typical of all the cities in Malaysia. Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. The market. This is just a small part of it. Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. Inside the market. The light gets in through green tinted windows, so the whole area is tinted green. See the yellowish balls on a tray between the two women? Those are turtle eggs. Boiled or fresh, 10 Ringgit for three. In San Jose, Costa Rica, they are much cheaper. I think the government lets people collect any eggs they want during the first few days of turtle egg lying season, because they will get wasted anyway by the next wave of turtles. They also sell eggs in other countries, and in Iquitos, Peru, river turtle eggs. These eggs here are huge and I am sure from sea turtles. Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. The walls are also painted green. Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. A woman leaving the market (on the left). Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. A typical Malaysian wall. They love their air-conditioning. Next time you will get stuck on a bus without a sweater or a blanket - you will envy them their head covers and sarongs. The offices, malls, restaurants and so on are all the same - freezing. I think a Muslim attire was made for them ;) Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. I don't know exactly why, but this guy just suddenly set there. It might have to do with the beginning of broadcasting the mid-day prayers. I doubt it though. Photo: Kota Bahru, Malaysia. An this is where the drama happened, haha. My hotel is in the middle of the block. KD Backpackers Lodge. 10 Ringgit a night - what a difference from 30 on the Perhentian Island!! (the entrance is straight down from the letter 'c' in '.com'). My life has always been about freedom and I shall continue to walk this path. Safe travels ! ........... Stan Check out my Photography Portfolio |
