PART 3: Back on the road - South East Asia.
Route Map Siem Reap, Cambodia »

I have been in Siem Reap for two weeks. It's a small town, easy explored on foot. There is a one main road through the tourist area, and then another along the river.
The tourist places are around the Pub Street. It's all about bars and restaurants. A smalle version of Bangkok, or any other place I have seen in Asia.
I have been staying at the Garden Village guest house. It's a great place. The superb semi-private dorms are only a dollar a night! There is a bar with 50 cents draft beer upstairs, and the
staff is nice. And of course free WiFi.

The Pub Street. That's where all the tourists go for food or beer, to socialize. This is the main street and it becomes alive at night. At this time, 3 pm, it's quiet and empty, though
everything is already open.

As you can see, the whole blosk is just restaurants.

The main Pub Street is not the only one lined up with places to eat and drink. There are a few smaller streets in the area, all connected and focused on catering to the tourists.
On the left, the market where I had my first tarantula, and what a tasty snak it was!

After the food, a walk towards the river. This view is still the same street with food stalls, looking back.

I used to come and sit on a bench, just to relax, think.
I've been to Siem Reap for two weeks I think, but I haven't taken many photos of the town itself. There isn't really that much to phototgraph. The main reason everyone comes here
is the Angkor Wat, and I made this trip just a few days ago. In Siem Reap I tried a new delicacy, which ufortunately I haven't photographed. Big tarantula spiders! I tried two, it's a dollar
for two big ones. I must say that they were quite good! The legs and the rest are crunchy, but the stomach has quite substance to it. it is solid and not bad tasting.
I don't know what to compare it to, but I could have rice with veggies and some spiders once in a while no problem. I had no camera with me when I ate the spiders and
I went back to the market to buy some more later, another day. I went back for three days and they didn't have them! What a bummer.. I wish I had a photograph of
this tasty snack.
