PART 3: Back on the road - South East Asia.
Route Map Penang, Malaysia » September 11, 2010 Busy in Penang! September 11 and a trip to one of the biggest attraction here - the big Kek Lok Si Temple complex. An easy bus ride from the doorstep of my hotel, then a walk up the road, and voila - a jungle of temples. This temple was built from 1890 to 1910 and funded mainly by donations. It's the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. Kek Lok Si Temple in the far background. After getting off the bus first you have to walk through the tourist souvenirs stalls, then go up the road leading to the first temple. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. Walking up the road, things start to take shape. The weather is gloomy, so I am hoping for a short rain and sunshine later. Photo: Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia. Getting there! They look bigger, and bigger. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. It did rain a little but it was safe under the thick trees. Tatiana, my Russian travel companion in Penang, was afraid of a drop of water so I wandered a bit up the hill alone. Later, she was upset about missing the taking photos of the lovely termites. Well, look at me - I not afraid of rain. It's not that bad, I speak You! ha ha It was very interesting to see how the termite soldiers (the big ones) were guarding the traffic of smaller ones, perhabs workers. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. Finally, at the first temple with a view of things to come. The sky is getting clear - a good sign. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. The first temple. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. Inside - very impressive. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. To get here you must pass through this gate. I am standing now at the entrance to the first temple (the one in the picture above). Photo: Penang, Malaysia. The garden at the center of the Kek Lok Si Temple. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. A view of the 30 meters high pagoda. I will climb it later. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. A closer view at the garden. The weather started getting really good. I got more energy with the sunshine and went into a photo shooting mode. Below a few random images of the Kek Lok Si Temple taken from around the garden area. Finally I was able to catch better colors. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. Kek Lok Si Temple - roof detail. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. Kek Lok Si Temple. Photo: Penang, Malaysia. Kek Lok Si Temple. After this photo sesion I went on to the next temple. I don't want to put too many pictures on one page, so I will continue here My life has always been about freedom and I shall continue to walk this path. Safe travels ! ...........
