PART 1: Escape from Vancouver freeze & the Mexico couch surfing experiment - Dec. 13 - Jan. 9 2010
San Diego, USA - January 05, 2010 18:49. I am in San Diego now. One day and a half here and I will fly to Bellingham on the 7th. Ensenada, Mexico - January 05, 2010 Today is my last day in Ensenada and Mexico. I just had my usual breakfast - ceviche on tostada. I think I am addicted to ceviche, ha ha, and I don't know what I will do without it. Now I am at McDonald's having a coffee ( which by the way tastes better here than at McDonald's in Vancouver ). It's about 11 AM. I am going to check the email's, and then I will go sit by the ocean, at the port. It is an incredibly nice day today again - bright blue sky, sunshine and the most important - it is warm. Just a t-shirt again ! I think Mexico has the perfect climate range. It doesn't get too cold in winter and you can just go a bit South and have summer, at any time of the year. Mexico also has both: the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean coast. Seafood, diving, culture, entertainment, lot's of space, natural wonders to explore in the mountains and in the sea. And it is affordable by our standards. I already traveled in Mexico a bit. I have been to Tijuana, Ensenada, La Paz, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City, Oaxaca, San Cristobal and Palenque. But this is a big country. It doesn't seem like it at first when you look at the map. California is like this small place on the side, but it is big. And then the rest is much bigger. I think it's safe to say that 6 months of traveling in Mexico is not too much. There are many places here which are different form others. Different food, scenery and culture. I will be coming back to Mexico. Definitely. Ensenada - I will come back here too. I like it somehow. It is not too big, but not too small at the same time. It is a city, but there are no high rise buildings here. It is by the ocean and seafood is plenty and fresh. People here are also used to tourists, and it feels safe. I don't really like touristy places, but despite those cruise ships arriving here with hundreds of tourists on a regular basis, Ensenada doesn't feel like a tourist trap. Things heat up when they arrive, but that's only for a day. Then things become quiet and staying here for a bit longer you can relax and enjoy everything. There is also a fair amount of night life, but this is nothing in comparison to Tijuana. There is absolutely no doubt about it. I think Ensenada is a good place to chill for a week or so. Next time, traveling South, I will definitely come back here, visit the people I met here and eat all the seafood in town ! ha ha So, what else can I say - thank you Mexico and see you again !
