● PART 6 : ● 'Poland - there and back' - October 2013 - ? 2014...
| |||||||
NEXT: ? LATER: (some of the countries I plan to visit in the future; I have been to some of these, but I would like to come back) » Myanmar (Burma) » » Mongolia » » Philippines » » East Timor » » Papua New Guinea » » Australia » » New Zealand » » Sri Lanka » » India » » Pakistan » » Iran » Ending up with less than half the money I expected to have after the Olympics, and no jobs to find after (all the minimum wage jobs are already being done by other engineers, university grads, computer geeks, artists), I packed my stuff and decided to pay instead of 20 dollars for a bunk bed in Vancouver, a modest 6 for my own room - in Asia. I might also do some English teaching there, do more traveling of course and photography. This is what I am supposed to do, not watch my skills, talents and money being wasted in British Columbia, no matter how beautiful the locals think it is. ● PART 2 : ● 'Back to Vancouver - surviving with a goal in mind' - Jan. 9 - May 8 2010 ● Itenerary: » Canada » Vancouver January 2010 - back from Mexico. A new type of experiment - house-sitting. Then a job for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. A blessing and a disappointment at the same time. We were promised a full time job from mid January till end of March, with lots of overtime, but it turned out that I was actually one of the lucky ones who ended up with three weeks of work. Many people got in trouble because of this deception. But what else can you expect from Vancouver, other than money grabbing and false promises. And my goal has been only one - to organize myself and leave again. I managed to do this, eventually, but unfortunately with half the amount of money which I was counting on. ● PART 1 : ● The beginning of this BLOG - Escape from Vancouver freeze & the Mexico couch surfing experiment - Dec. 13 - Jan. 9 2010 ● Itenerary: » Canada » Vancouver (start) » USA » Bellingham, San Diego » Mexico » Tijuana, Playas de Tijuana, Ensenada, La Bufadora, Ensenada, Tijuana » USA »; San Diego, Bellingham, Blane » Canada » Vancouver With limited funds, no place to stay in the expensive and most of all - cold to the bone Vancouver, I decided to have it cheaper and better. I went South, to Mexico. I made it there and back in three weeks on 650 dollars. Vancouver to San Diego, Tijuana, Ensenada, and back to Vancouver. I became a member of the couchsurfing.org, and it worked. I had a place to stay about half of the time. read the FIRST ENTRY (earlier entries start at the bottom of each page) ● PART 0 : ● The beginnings - Mexico, Central & South Ameriaca 2007 - 2009. ● Itenerary: (there are many other places I have been to on a day trip or passed along the way and I will add them later, but this is pretty much the route I traveled) ● Central & South America Maps » Canada » Vancouver, Victoria, Vancouver (start) » USA » Seattle, Los Angeles, Venice Beach, Santa Ana, Los Angeles, San Diego, La Jolla, San Diego » Mexico » Tijuana » USA » San Diego » Mexico » Tijuana, La Paz, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Mexico City, Teotihuacan, Mexico City, Oaxaca, Hierve el Agua, Oaxaca, Monte Alban, oaxaca, San Cristobal de Las Casas, San Juan Chamula, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Canyon de Sumidero, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Palenque » Guatemala » Frontera Corozal, Flores, Tikal, Flores, Coban, Semuc Champey, Grutas de Lanquin, Coban, Antiqua, Volcan Pacaya, Chichicastenango, Guatemala City, Lago Atitlan, Panajachel, San Pedro la Laguna, Santiago Atitlan, San Marcos la Laguna, Panajachel, Antiqua, Rio Dulce, Livingston » Belize » Punta Gorda, Belize City, Caye Caulker, Belize City, Belmopan, San Ignacio, Belmopan, Independence, Placencia » Honduras » Puerto Cortez, San Pedro Sula, El Progreso, La Ceiba, Roatan, La Ceiba, Pena Blanca, Lago de Yoja, La Esperanza, Gracias, Santa Rosa de Copan, Nueva Octopeque, El Poy » El Salvador » San Ignacio, La Palma, Suchidoto, Apopa, El Congo, Lago de Coatepeque, Parque Nacional Cerro Verde, Volcan Izalco, Izalco, Sansonate, La Libertad, Playa el Tunco, La Libertad, Usulatan, ? I was sick and tired of trying to make it there, and being always pushed back to square one. I had to get out. It's a tough city not just for immigrants, but for people living there. Those who are not rich and well connected. Maybe also for those who immigrated there 40 years ago, when buying a house was still affordable. Now the middle class disappears, rich are getting richer, and the government is basically legally free to waste taxpayers money any way they want and get away with it. Vancouver is not a healthy city. Just go to see the East Side, Main St. and Hastings area, where you will see crowds of zombie like looking people using anf selling drigs openly. It's a place where according to the government, which is so successfull at creating an image of 'the best place in the world to live', almost 19% of children live below the poverty line. The minimum wage, the lowest in Canada at 8 dollars per hour, has been frozen in British Columbia since 2000. The BC Liberals are saying that it's enough to live. Yet the same government talks about inflation and gives themselves wage increase, every year. Plus bonuses and huge retirenment packages at the end, and free dinner and expensive tickets for events like the Olympics. All not accounted for, officially. That's democracy Canadian edition, a country which used immigration as a way to legally bring in 'modern slaves', unaweare people who end up volunteering to gain the 'canadian experience' and run endless paper trail with hopes to get somewhere, following that vanishing point of hope on the horizone, which is skillfully kept not too far but not too close by the new fees, taxes, licenses, invented by the army of fat people on their fat salaries crafting the illusion of the promissed land and creating next fat contracts for themselves and their friends. I have seen such system in Poland, where we had communism. 'We gotta get out of this place', just like The Angelic Upstarts sang, became my motto (I know it is by the Animals but I always listened to punk). I packed my old backpack, put my artwork and the rest of my old existence in a storage and said 'Hello' to my new life. I set my sail on Mexico and Central America. Just like I did in the 90's when I left for Japan. I was supposed to spend a few months in Latin America. Just to see it, get a bit of an idea what it's like - I had never been there before. A few months became two years. Traveling by bus and boats, I have been to perhaps 200 cities since. I had taken thousands of photos, but I neglected writing and keeping a blog. I will be working on it, and with time upload everything to this web site and my photography portfolio. ● PAST TRAVELS : In the past, I have also been to and lived in some of these countries and places: » Poland (born here) » Germany » Slovakia » Belgium » Holland » England » Algeria » Tunisia » Japan (8 years) » South Korea » India » Nepal » Taiwan » Australia » Fiji » Hawaii » Singapore ● FUTURE TRAVELS : Trips I am planning to do in the future: Two major trips - Africa and Europe. I would like to get to Europe from Asia through Mongolia. Then, from Europe, Africa. After this, I will do a World tour visiting places I have missed and some to which I would like to come back again. I hope, with time, I will find my home.. |
