PART 5: Winter break
![]() ![]() First day in San Juan del Norte. First impression - quiet, not much happening. No cars, no motorcycles. A bit different from what I expected. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → The main street. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → The probably most prominent building here - they gymnasium. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → This is behind the gymnasium, I'd say the most colorful place in this town, but always empty. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → The town can be explored on foot, and you walk around on concrete pathways. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → Just one of them. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → Local mobile vendor. Unfortunately, it's almost virtually not possible in this town to buy fruits! They eat gallo pinto (rice and beans), cabbage, and eggs. Plus yuka and platanos. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → A 'busy' intersection. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → Another street. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → Lots of houses like this. They look better in the photos than in reality. Lots of the wooden houses have nothing inside - it's just one room, maybe another seperate area, with beds and hummocks for the whole family living together. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → Another house. This one concrete, but the same idea. There are not hot showers here, just cold water. For that matter, there are usually no hooks to hang your towel in the shower. It amazies me that Nicaraguan could improve their lives in a very easy and costing next to nothing ways, but they don't seem to do anything about it. Especially hotels - no hooks to hang your clothes, no shelves to put any of your toilettries. Local people seem to think only about here and now. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → The pier where the boats come. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → The red and black colors are the Sandinista flag colors. They are everywhere to see. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → Toilet. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → Backyard. ![]() Photo: San Juan del Norte, Nicaragua → Flower. This was my first day in San Juan del Norte. I need to find out about the boats to Bluefields. More - Continued here. |
