PART 5: Winter break
Route Map Masaya, Nicaragua »
November 15, 2012
Soon after Managua, I went to another city - Masaya. A small cool town, some colonial buildings, but quiet and not many tourists. If they come, seems like only on a day trip from Managua,
or Granada. It's only an hour and a dollar to get here by bus from Managua. Very affordable.
I am staying at the Hotel Regis. Private room, shared bathroom, all very clean. The sheets and towel are changed daily. The cost - 100 Cordobas a night, which is $4.50.

I snapped this photo because of the Masaya sign and the horses. They are one of the means of transportation here. A trip across the town cost 15 Cordobas, or about 60 cents.

The center point of the Parque Central. There are a number of small hats around it catering variety of foods. From comida typica, like baho, vigaron, and other typical Nicaraguan dishes, to
a bit more expensive, but worth it, seafood (fish, ceviche, langosta). Also fresh juices, and coffee. A cup of coffee is 5 Cordobas (about 20 cents). Cremora, which is coffee with coffee whitener, 40 cents.

I picked a few things to sample on one plate. All of them are a part of typical Nicaraguan cuisine.
The rice with beans, platan, chicken, pig tongue, and some type of sausage. All very tasty.

To wash it down, the number one beer of Nicaragua - Tona. They sell it in small regula rize bottles, and 1 liter big ones. A small one is 20-25 Cordobas, and
un litro 40 - 45 Cordobas (about $1.70).
