PART 5: Winter break
![]() ![]() El Castillo - a small river town of about 1500 people. No cars, no motorcycles. I think I am going to like it. ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → My hotel room. I am sharing it with my recent travel buddy, Erik from Sweden. Two bed room for 5 dollars a night each. ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → It's located right on the main street. ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → And at the sime on the river. A good place to relax. ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → This is how El Castillo looks from the patio of my hotel. ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → View from the patio, to the right. There are rapids visible down the river. This is the reason why the Spanish build the fort on the hill overlooking the rapids, a very good strategic point. ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → The main street in El Castillo. ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → The main street in El Castillo, with this church barely visible in the previous photo, on the far left. ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → The church. ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → Christmas tree local style. Made from empty pop bottles, quite creative! ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → Local nica passing by. Lots of women in Nicaragua, and in general Central America, wera tight pants. Only older women and indegenious wear skirts, but for all the rest, the yound up to middle age, tight pants seem to be the choice. No complains there :) ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → Typical Central American scene - animals living with people, and in this case, the pig living under the house. ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → They were making typical Nicaraguan dish in front of the house - yuka, pork and other ingredients wrapped in banana leaf, then boiled for a very long time. ![]() Photo: El Castillo, Nicaragua → 4:30 pm and I came back to taste it. Only 30 Cordobas, so about $1.20. It was delicious! I had two of them. More - Continued here. |
